Statistics 101

Statistics 101 is the flagship capacity-building program under Innovations Data Camp (IDC), designed to equip researchers, health professionals, institutions, and organizations with practical statistical skills for high-quality research and evidence-based decision-making.

The program uses a competency-based approach, where participants learn by doing. Rather than focusing only on theory, trainees engage in practical tasks, dataset exercises, guided mentorship, and weekly presentations every Saturday. This model ensures that participants progressively build confidence in applying statistics to real research questions and organizational data needs.

Statistics 101 covers key areas including research question development, study design, data collection tools, data management, descriptive statistics, data visualization, selection of appropriate statistical tests, interpretation of results, regression analysis, statistical reporting, critical appraisal, and development of statistical analysis plan

Statistics 101 is more than a training program — it is a practical pathway to building competent researchers and stronger data-driven institutions. Click the link to book a slot for the second cohort starting August 2026.

The IDC Mentorship Program for Early career Statisticians is a six-month intensive mentorship initiative designed to develop the next generation of skilled, confident, and impact-driven data professionals. The program supports early career statisticians / data professionals to strengthen their practical skills in statistical analysis, research, data management, and evidence-based decision-making.

Through a high-level hands-on approach, mentees work with real-world datasets and are guided through the advanced statistical data life cycle , from understanding data problems and preparing datasets to analysis, visualization, interpretation, reporting, and evidence translation. Each participant is linked to experienced mentors who provide technical guidance, feedback, and professional support throughout the program.

This approach helps participants build discipline, confidence, and competence in handling real data challenges across health, development, research, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional data systems.

Cohort 2 is currently ongoing, while Cohort 3 is scheduled to start in January 2027. The IDC Mentorship Program is more than a learning opportunity — it is a practical pathway for Early statisticians / Data Officers to grow into competent professionals who can support organizations, research teams, and data-driven institutions. The IDC Research Field Training Program is a practical capacity-building initiative under Innovations Data Camp (IDC) designed to prepare individuals and organizations for high-quality field research, ethical data collection, and effective research implementation. The program equips participants with the core skills needed to support research projects in health, development, social sciences, monitoring and evaluation, and institutional data systems.

The training uses a hands-on and competency-based approach, combining practical sessions, field simulations, assignments, mentorship, and guided exercises. Participants are introduced to key areas such as research ethics, informed consent, questionnaire administration, digital data collection tools, data quality control, community entry, field documentation, and reporting.

Through this program, IDC aims to build a pool of competent field research personnel who can confidently support research teams, collect reliable data, engage professionally with communities, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making. The program is suitable for students, graduates, research assistants, data collectors, field officers, and organizations seeking to strengthen their field research teams.

The first cohort of the IDC Research Field Training Program is scheduled to start in August 2026.
